The Haunting of Hill House
by
Shirley Jackson
My rating:
3 of 5 stars
Hmm. This is one of those books where I find myself wondering what it would have
been like to read it in 1959, before the advent of modern horror in both books
and film.
I enjoyed this book, but I can't help but think I would
have enjoyed it more if I hadn't seen the movie based on it (which gave me an
idea of where the story was going) and didn't have that experience with other
horror books.
All the same, though, the writing is quite enjoyable
and I do appreciate seeing the roots of the horror genre as it stands today.
